Marissa has been a multi sport athlete throughout her entire life. She tried almost every sport growing up, but soccer and basketball became her specialty as she got older. During her senior year of basketball at Colorado College, she watched one of her teammates suffer a career ending injury. Marissa vividly remembers attending rehab sessions with her teammate, and watching her develop a relationship with the team physical therapist. Seeing the bond and trust PT’s brought to the patient-provider relationship was a large part of what led Marissa to become a PT.
Marissa earned her doctorate in physical therapy from Creighton University (Omaha, NE), and then completed a sports residency at Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine Institute (Houston, TX) where she became a Sports Clinical Specialist. Combining her passion for helping others with athletics is just one reason she loves her work at the Performance Shift. As a former four year member of the NCAA division III Colorado College women’s basketball program, she understands the challenges faced when trying to get back to competition.
