Dr. Alyssa Arms is a physical therapist, dancer, and educator who specializes in working with dancers of all levels—from pre-professional to professional—through her practice, Back in Step Physical Therapy.
With over 35 years of experience training, performing, and competing as a dancer, Alyssa blends clinical expertise with an insider’s understanding of the physical and mental demands of dance. Her practice focuses on technique refinement, performance enhancement, injury prevention, and support for dancers with hypermobility. Her collaborative, individualized approach helps dancers optimize movement quality, build resilience, and return to the stage stronger than before. Alyssa is dedicated to empowering dancers to not only heal but understand their bodies and take ownership of their long-term wellness.
In addition to her clinical work, Alyssa is full-time faculty in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at the University of Colorado. She is also the creator and host of the Dance Med Spotlight podcast, where she highlights experts and evidence-based practices in dance medicine and science. Alyssa regularly presents locally, nationally, and internationally to promote education and awareness in the field of dance health.
I keep dancers happy and healthy, whether they're under the spotlight or dancing the night away.
